The GST Council’s 53rd meeting is scheduled for June 22, 2024, in New Delhi, marking its first session since the NDA government’s reelection. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, continuing her tenure, will preside over discussions that precede the upcoming Parliamentary session starting June 24.

New state government representatives from Andhra Pradesh, Sikkim, Odisha, and Arunachal Pradesh will also participate. The agenda, yet to be finalized, will likely include a review of the real money gaming (RMG) tax regime and discussions on retrospective tax dues, set for a final hearing in July 2024.

Despite industry hopes for reduced tax rates, officials suggest maintaining the existing 28 percent GST rate on online gaming bets. The Council’s decisions will impact the sector’s future amid ongoing regulatory challenges.
